Gravity die casting

Demanding geometries and high component requirements are optimal prerequisites for our gravity die casting method

At Handtmann, we use the gravity die casting method for your demanding applications. This involves casting the melt into the metallic permanent mould (die) under the effect of gravity.

Due to its thermal conductivity, the die causes an accelerated cooling of the melt, which leads to rapidly advancing solidification. The result is a fine-grained and dense structure that guarantees very high strength values.

Depending on the component geometry, sand cores can be used in gravity die casting.

The method is suitable for the series production of cast pieces with a weight of up to 20 kg.

Advantages of gravity die casting

  • Excellent material characteristics
  • Complex internal geometries can be produced (by means of sand core)
  • Low tool costs compared to die casting
  • High degree of automation possible
  • Leak tightness
  • Sprue parts possible
